The Swiss Water Pear

Also called Kugelbirne (ball pear), it belongs to the cider pear family. They are particularly sought after for juices and distillates. And rightly so: this brandy is mild and fruity, a rarity among fine brandies. The fruity pear aroma unfolds both on the nose and on the palate, with subtle, tart nuances reminiscent of bitter almonds. A rare distillate for fruit brandy connoisseurs.

Production

A single, mighty tree trunk provides us with these wonderful water pears year after year. The cider pears are harvested over several weeks when they fall from the trunk at full ripeness. Only clean pears are mashed. Once the mash is fully fermented, it can be distilled. As with all our distillates, we naturally avoid any added flavorings or sugar. This allows the natural aroma of the Swiss water pear to shine through.

How quickly should a bottle be consumed?

Opened bottles should generally be emptied within a few months to a maximum of one year to avoid loss of flavor.

What is the correct storage method?

For long-term enjoyment, you should always store a distillate in a dark, cool place in an upright position.

Serving temperature:16–18 °C

Fits:Hearty bread meal, bacon and cheese, especially blue cheese, Roquefort, Stilton, Brie, Parmesan, Pecorino, goat cheese, Gorgonzola,
Cambozola, Camembert, Cantal, Cheddar and Feta.

It also makes a wonderful accompaniment to celery soup. Roasted almonds make a sweet snack to accompany the distillate.

Drinking temperature

The best drinking temperature for BRENNLUST distillates is between 15 and 18°C.

Drink a bit of water first

Before tasting the distillate, drink some water first. This moistens the tongue and pores. If you drink schnapps when you are thirsty, the alcohol will attack the exposed pores on your tongue. 40% vol. will then quickly feel like 50% vol.

Not all at once

Not all at once To experience most of the fruity aromas, it is recommended to enjoy the distillate in small sips. Simply drip it onto your tongue and the aromas will do the rest.
