The following drink should have been on this website for five years—after all, I've known it for that long. It was conceived on a cozy, enjoyable evening in January 2017—the same evening that Markus Bitsch created the Ménage à trois drink.

Markus Bitsch is actually a chef, but he also has a great hand at mixing drinks. When he tried an apple brandy, he immediately whipped up the following drink. A sour that's not quite as sour as the classic whiskey sour, as it also includes apple juice. Definitely try it; it's extremely drinkable:

Apple brandy as a base

I like this sour best with a Boskoop apple brandy —but Gravensteiner or Cox-Orange also work great. 🙂

Cocktail - shaken

Apple Sour

  • 6 cl apple juice (naturally cloudy, direct juice)
  • 6 cl apple brandy, e.g. Boskoop or Gravensteiner
  • 2 cl lime juice
  • 1 cl sugar syrup

Add all ingredients to a shaker over ice and shake vigorously for 20 seconds.

Then pour into a tumbler over ice.
